Off-Season Lake/Beach Rules

Although the summer beach season has ended, Lake Barcroft residents are permitted to continue to use the common properties. Swimming from the beaches is at your own risk when lifeguards are not present. Should you choose to enjoy the Lake this way in the off-season, keep the following in mind:

  • Continue to carry your beach tag. Our police patrols will be checking.
  • Always have a designated "water watcher" who will NOT be swimming with you but could summon help if needed.
  • Never swim alone.
  • Never allow small children to swim out of arm's reach.
  • Swim with a bright-colored cap and tow a float. You have a responsibility to be seen. The swim area ropes will be removed.
  • Be knowledgeable of the inherent risk of open water swimming.
  • Know how to recognize and provide first aid for hypothermia. Hypothermia is a risk when immersed in water below 80 degrees, although onset will be gradual in water 65-80 degrees. The colder the water, the quicker the onset. Vigorous swimming will not help keep the body warm. Most people should wear a wetsuit when the water temperature is below 75 degrees.

It was a wonderful, safe summer. Have a safe off-season as well.
