Stuart Band has something to toot its horn about — Six Lake Barcroft teens are among the members of the JEB Stuart High School band that has been named Virginia Honor Band for 2004. This is the highest award a Virginia band can earn. Lake Barcroft musicians are: Erica Abbey of Rusticway Lane, Nancy and Jack Daly of Jay Miller Drive, David Goslin of Ridgeway Terrace, Kris Pourzal of Dockser Terrace and Erin Willson of Tallwood Terrace.

To earn Honor Band status, a band must score “Superior” rating in the fall marching band season, and the Wind Ensemble must rate “Superior” at the spring District Music Festival.

This caps an outstanding year for the Stuart band program, led by Doug Martin. As we go to press the JEB Stuart Wind Ensemble, Concert and Jazz Bands are in Orlando, Fla., to compete on a national level in the Spring Music Festival.

Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble will be playing at the Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29 in the Stuart Auditorium.
