Keep children under 13 safe while boating

 

A new federal law "requires children under 13 on moving boats to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket that fits." Fifteen states will be affected by the rule. Virginia is one of them. For details, go to http://www.boatus.com/foundation/LJLP/staterequirements.asp

Also, while Lake Barcroft is not a federal waterway, the residents should adhere to these and all other U.S. Coast Guard and LBA water safety guidelines to safely enjoy the water and reduce the risk of accidents.

With colder water temperatures in May, hypothermia can still be a concern.
