Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor:

This is a Thank You note to some of my Lake Barcroft neighbors. I'm not sure exactly which ones, but if you have a teenage daughter, this may be for you.

The morning after the last snow found me outside trying to clear a path from my front porch to the road. Between the weight of my years and the weight of the snow, my progress was slow and I stopped shoveling frequently to rest and admire the winter wonderland around me. I had cleared about half the sidewalk when I noticed two teenage girls walking a dog. As they passed I waved hello and started shoveling again. A moment later I heard a duet of young voices called to me: "Hey, mister, can we help you?"

When I looked up, I noticed that the girls had turned and were walking back towards me. I thanked them, told them that I was having too much fun to give up my shovel and wished them a nice day as they proceeded on down Crosswoods Drive. Somehow the snow seemed lighter as I finished my task. Only later when I recounted the incident to my wife did I realize how deeply touched I had been by their thoughtful offer of assistance.

I don't know who the girls were or where they live, but I am certain that there are some parents among my Lake Barcroft neighbors who are more blessed than they may realize. To them I again say "thank you" for their daughters made my day.
