If you are happy that Target came to Seven Corners, you may be twice as happy to learn that Target is planning to open a second area store in Skyline Mall. In fact the new store will take the place of all the existing retailers at Skyline Mall, including the movie theater. "The new Target should open sometime in 2004," said Priscilla Weck of Pinetree Terrace, secretary of the Bailey's Crossroads Revitalization Corporation (BCRC).
The new Target store is only one of several commercial changes in our neighborhood:
. A new three-level public storage facility, with more than 900 units, is under construction at Seven Corners on the site once occupied by the Hillwood Motel, a car dealership, and Nova 35. In addition to the new storage facility, Fairfax County is developing a new landscape design for several of the grass median areas at Seven Corners, according to Elizabeth McKeeby, an aide to Mason District Supervisor Penny Gross. New retail development, along with needed County streetscape projects, could lead to a much improved Seven Corners.
. Near Bailey's Crossroads the former Capital Furniture building is being renovated and will be divided into multiple retail stores. According to Priscilla, one of the new stores is rumored to be a Vietnamese noodle restaurant. The new stores will be in the new Bailey's Crossroads streetscape project, which will be adding brick paved sidewalks, street lights, and landscaping to the area.
. For those of you have heard that the Fresh Fields located at 6548 Little River Turnpike will be closing, you may or may not be right. Fresh Fields is currently in negotiation about maintaining its current location. No changes have been finalized, according to Tanya Hossain the store manager. Whether or not the store closes, Fresh Fields will be opening up a new location in Alexandria at the corner of Duke Street and Holland Lane. No opening date is set.
