HOME STORY: "I have to credit my wife Chris with discovering Lake Barcroft. Before we were married, she told me about this Lake where she had purchased a home, which she was remodeling. I figured it was way out past the Beltway somewhere. I was shocked when I first saw this beautiful Lake so close to Washington."

PROFESSIONAL HIGHLIGHTS: Currently Editorial Director of Stars and Stripes. Former Ombudsman of Stars and Stripes. Former Editor of USA Today and USA Today International (years) . Thirty-eight years in the news business including 10 years overseas with The Associated Press covering such events as the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, the end of the Salazar dictatorship in Portugal, and the Biafran civil war in Nigeria.

CURRENT PROJECT: Preparing for coverage of possible Iraq War.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: Serves on the board of directors of the World Press Institute. Juror for 1999 Pulitzer Prize (Feature Writing).

FAVORITE LAKE BARCROFT EVENT: Fourth of July

FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR AT THE LAKE: Shortly after dawn in the summer

FAVORITE MEMORY: "Last summer, we were going around Turtle Island on our barge and broke a pin. We were stranded and darkness was fast approaching. Some people who lived nearby saw us and came to our rescue. The Christians (Don and Ruth of Lakeview Drive), who have lived here for years, towed us home and regaled us with stories about the Lake."

WHAT DOES LAKE BARCROFT MEAN TO YOU? "Home. I've lived a lot of places, but this feels like home -- a permanent home. People go on vacation to places like this, and we are lucky enough to live here."
