Therese St. Hillaire

 

HOME STORY: First bought a lot in 1955 on Burton Circle. Soon discovered because of the steep hill they'd have to pay for thedriveway to the house. Sold the lot and bought a home on Blair Road. Had just moved in was walking with her husband when they saw some children playing with matches at a house under construction on Duff Drive. Told the owner about the vandalism. He offered to sell them the house. "We bought it the very next day."

 

FAMILY: "My dear husband died in 1986, but I have three children and four grandchildren who love to visit Grandma's Lake."

 

LAKE ACTIVITIES: LBA Board (twice) and "just about every job on the Woman's Club, including a term as president."

 

FAVORITE LAKE BARCROFT EVENTS: Ice Cream Social and Woman's Club Christmas Party

 

FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR AT THE LAKE: Spring, especially at the Community Garden

 

FONDEST LAKE MEMORY: "When the children were young, we would go down to the beach early in the day, and stay until well after dark. We could only drag them home with the promise of returning the next day. This wonderful memory is refreshed every time my grandchildren visit during the summer."

 

OTHER COMMUNITY WORK: Board member of Central Fairfax Services and the Op Shop, serving the disabled.

 

HOBBIES: Lake Barcroft, golf and bridge

 

LATEST PURCHASE: Hybrid Honda--gets 35-plus miles to the gallon. Still won't give up her Jaguar though.

 

WHAT DOES LAKE BARCROFT MEAN TO YOU?: "I believe Lake Barcroft is one of God's most beautiful creations, put here for us to use. I also believe we must act as custodians and protect it for the future, otherwise we will have failed ourselves and our children."
