LAKE LINK

It's potpourri, a verbal smorgasbord-- it's Lake Link, a free community information exchange on the web through your computer, bringing Barcrofters together with their likes, dislikes, and idiosyncrasies.

About half the 1,032 homes in Barcroft are hooked up. In a random two-month sampling, Lake Linkers sought or supplied information about gutters, pet and baby sitters, chair caning, lost dogs, lots of dentists, London lodgings, leather repair, invisible fences ,a $990,00 house on Greentree Drive and the sighting of an anhinga (rare water bird).

An intriguing item: "We are planning to purchase a bearded dragon lizard for our children and are interested in buying a desert aquarium." It turns out that Lake Link found the aquarium for the three sons, ages 3, 6 and 8, of Barry and Marcelle Miles.

But a bearded dragon lizard? Yes, says Marcelle, they come from Australia, "real, friendly pets, they like to be held, sit on your shoulder, and they don't stink."

Lake Link became a forum for sometimes heated argument on the proposed sales tax increase for transportation. An unofficial poll came out 6 in favor and 4 opposed. Hot and heavy, the talk sometimes went like this:

"We are seeing the demise of intelligent debating and substitution of stubborn single-mindedness."

Or, "When logic fails, personal invective is the refuge of scoundrels." See, you can let it all hang out on Lake Link.

But there also was sober thought. David Feld announced he had "come off the fence" and would vote yes. And John Higbee thanked George Waters for his research and added, "I now feel much better about my vote for this measure."

Leaf blowing billowed into an issue. To someone who had anonymously posted signs decrying the use of leaf blowers, Bill Cook thundered "Come out in the open so I can challenge you to a leaf-off. You can use your beloved rake. I'll show up with my 54cc backpack blower, and we'll see who can do a better, faster job."
