Please join us on Saturday, October 22, at Beach 5 for our Fall Watershed Festival.  Enjoy music, refreshments, and learn loads of tips on watershed friendly activities for all ages.  Find your property on our large watershed-topographic map and see how it interacts with the watershed. Learn about our new watershed program and how you can receive expert guidance in turning your own yard into a watershed friendly garden.  Perhaps it will be on our own Lake Barcroft Watershed Garden Tour next year! Sign up to help us as we pursue a year of educational outreach, workshops and programs.

            Schedule of events:

  • 8:45 and 11:30 - Enjoy either an early morning or mid-day Barge Tour around Lake Barcroft to see the fall color, and learn about our watershed and our new watershed program, and observe wildlife up close and personal – especially for those who are new residents or those who live off the lake. Led by our own resident naturalist, Kevin Howe.  Reservations required fo r both the 8:45 and 11:30 tours so sign up early!   • 10:30 and 11:00 - See our working watershed model.  Watch what happens to pollution, trash, and sediments when they enter our watershed.  This is a program you will not forget! Join Jeff Moeller of Stoneybrae, Director of Programs and Research in Stormwater issues at Water Environment Research Foundation.
  • 10:30 and 11:00 - Learn about erosion and sedimentation up close and personal with Stephanie Perez of Potterton Dr., Senior Geologist and Water Resource Specialist at Dewberry. Join Stephanie for an exciting hands on learning experience. Get the real "dirt" on our watershed.
  • 10:00 - 12:00 - Enjoy coffee and refreshments and sign up to win a rain barrel or native tree in our raffle and join the following programs throughout the morning:
  • Bring your children to meet Stormy the Raindrop, and to listen to stories, create a work of art, and join a sing along with songs about watersheds with educator & creative writer, Elaine Lindstrom,  Lakeview Dr.
  • Tour the RPA Demonstration garden, pick up educational brochures, and ge t tips on incorporating rain barrels, rain gardens, and plans and plant lists that you can use in your own garden to make it more watershed friendly. Join Betsy Washington, faculty member in the GWU Sustainable Landscape Design Program.
  • Learn about all that WID does to protect the water quality of Lake Barcroft.  See displays of their heroic efforts during and after Tropical Storm Lee. Learn about shoreline protection, biologs, and the many other ways that WID works to protect our lake.
  • Meet naturalist Cliff Fairweather, director of the N. VA Audubon At Home and learn about ways to support wildlife while creating a watershed friendly garden.
