Come Celebrate Lake Barcroft's Wildlife with Eco-Adventure Barge Cruises, Storytelling, and Songs Around the Campfire

Co-sponsored by the LBA Environmental Committee and the Lake Barcroft Woman's Club

When and Where:   Saturday, September 28th, from 5:30 to 8:45 at Beach 5

(Canceled if it rains)

Eco-Adventure Cruises: 5:30 - 7:00 (FULL) - Our own resident naturalist extraordinaire, K evin Howe, and Arlington County head Naturalist, Alonso Abugattas (former director of nearby Long Branch Nature Center), will lead eco-adventure tours around the lake from 5:30 to 7:00.  Come enjoy the sunset over the lake and watch the stars come out while you look for wildlife. Perhaps you will spot night herons returning to their roost, or a Barred Owl softly hooting, "Who Cooks for me, who cooks for me", or bats quietly swooping through the evening sky catching mosquitoes.  Learn all about our amazing wildlife and the natural world that abounds around the lake. We have barge captains standing by to take you and your family into the wilds of Lake Barcroft to discover some of our amazing wildlife up close and personal!

Tours are by advance reservation only, with priority given to families with children. All children need to be accompanied by a parent or adult. We want everyone to get a chance to celebrate our Lake Barcroft wildlife, so sign up early!  Email Betsy Washington at: bwash99@verizon.net to reserve spaces for your family. Please be sure to give the number in your party and ages of children. (FULL)

Campfire Program at Beach 5: Storytelling and Campfire Songs: 7:00 - 8:45

Everyone is invited to join us at 7:00 for a campfire program at Beach 5.  Gather around the campfire on the Beach and watch the stars come out and listen to the sounds of the night. Who-o-o-o's that hooting in the woods, gliding silently between the trees, or splashing in the lake?  Master Storyteller and Naturalist, Alonso Abugattas, will dazzle young and old alike with magical stories about wildlife and the natural wonders of Lake Barcroft. Meet a live owl up close and personal!  Don't miss this wonderful event; it will be filled with fun and laughter!

Bring your singing voices and sense of humor and finish the evening with some rousing campfire songs led by several of our own superlative musicians.  Join the fun as we sing favorite tunes and try out some new and silly verses about our own Lake Barcroft.

Bring a Brown Bag picnic or snacks with your name on it to enjoy around the Campfire. We will provide delicious treats, cookies and cider for everyone. You may want to bring a blanket or folding chair and flashlight too, and don't forget your sense of adventure and fun!

Email Betsy Washington at: bwash99@verizon.net to let us know if you will be joining us for the campfire program which is open to all.
